Anthropic nears $1trn valuation following record $65bn funding round

AI company Anthropic has secured $65bn in Series H funding, lifting its post-money valuation to $965bn, putting the creator of Claude among the world's most valuable technology companies above rival OpenAI.

The funding round was led by Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks and Sequoia Capital, alongside a broad group of institutional investors and strategic partners. Anthropic said the investment will support safety and interpretability research, expand computing capacity and accelerate the development of products and partnerships as demand for Claude continues to grow.

The AI frontier startup reported that annualised revenue has surpassed $47bn, driven by increasing enterprise adoption across a range of industries. Claude is now deployed by organisations globally for business-critical workflows, while consumer usage continues to expand.

Krishna Rao, chief financial officer at Anthropic, said: “Claude is increasingly indispensable to our growing global community of customers. This funding will help us serve the historic demand we are experiencing, stay at the research frontier, and bring Claude to more of the places where work happens.”

Anthropic has also strengthened its infrastructure position through major agreements with cloud and technology partners, including Amazon, Google, Broadcom and SpaceX. The company said it has secured up to 10 gigawatts of additional computing capacity and remains committed to Amazon Web Services as its primary cloud and training partner.

For the UK, the funding comes as Anthropic expands its international footprint, with London emerging as one of its key global hubs outside the US. The company has increased hiring across research, engineering, policy, safety and enterprise partnerships, building on collaborations with UK institutions including the London School of Economics.

Apart from being welcome news for the UK, which has ambitions to become the leading European hub for frontier artificial intelligence development, Anthropic’s expansion is already estimated to be pushing up salaries. AI engineers, especially those working at frontier labs like Anthropic, are commanding some of the highest salaries in the entire tech industry, with typical total compensation ranges between £250,000-£500,000 and above.
