ITV remains in talks with Sky as profits slip

ITV has confirmed it is still in in discussions with Sky regarding the possible sale of its broadcasting arm, but said there is “no certainty” whether an agreement will be reached.

The company revealed last November it had opened talks with Sky over a potential £1.6bn deal for its media and entertainment (M&E) division, which includes ITV’s free-to-air TV channels and the streaming service, ITV X.

ITV made the announcement as it also released its latest annual results covering the 12-month period to 31 December 2025. The group reported a 5% fall in its adjusted pre-tax profit across the year, which totalled £448m.

Total group revenue was down by £19m from 2024, remaining at around £4.1bn in the year, while revenue within its M&E division saw a decline of 5% to £2bn, £111m down compared to 2024.

Despite the falling figures, ITV said it had delivered a “good performance” in 2025 ahead of market expectations, as chief executive, Carolyn McCall, cited a “challenging market backdrop”.

“With a strong digital platform, we have successfully capitalised on growth opportunities, delivered resilient profits and generated good levels of cash,” McCall commented

“We have created two resilient and attractive businesses, and ITV today is a demonstrably leaner, more agile and increasingly digital business, well adapted to deliver future growth.

“As we head into 2026 and beyond, we are focused on delivering continued strategic progress, driving profitable growth and strong cash generation, underpinned by our unwavering value creation strategy.”
